Black Bear on the River

This picture was taken in Sequoia/ Kings Canyon National Park in California. The parks are absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth visiting. Both parks have a lot to offer, including; a plethora of wildlife, tons of hiking trails, camp sites, lodges, cabins, and fantastic scenery. The parks are SUPER impressive no matter where you’re from, but if you’ve never seen a giant sequoia (redwood) before, then prepare to be amazed. We went during the summer this year and we saw tons of animals, including this Black Bear (and seven others). There are easy trails and trails for backpackers, and the people who work at rangers stations are really helpful if you have questions. Just a reminder, if you’re going to be hiking here to bring the appropriate footwear and outdoor gear for the type of hike you’re going on!

Fish- Mobile

This picture was taken in the wacky, wonderful, and weird city of San Francisco. San Francisco, being one of the major cities in Northern California, has a TON to offer. Some of my favorite San Fran places are the Cal Academy of Sciences, The Golden Gate Bridge, and Haight Ashbury. It’s a really neat city, and you can find a lot of interesting areas just by wandering around. We happened to drive past this on a recent visit there, I thought it was super cool, and pretty indicative of the awesomely artsy weirdness that can be found in this city. If you’re planning to visit i’d recommend looking into visiting some of the numerous museums the city has to offer, or looking to see what events may be happening during your visit. This is also a great place to go for music, check to see if there are any cool concerts or music festivals going on during your stay!

These pictures were taken at one of my FAVORITE places in Portland, Oregon. These were taken at Powell’s bookstore, the largest new/used independent bookstore IN THE WORLD. There is more than one branch of Powell’s, but this one, the City of Books, takes up a whole city block. I’m big on books, so this place is sort of like Disneyland for me (especially once I found the archaeology section.) The books, especially the used ones, run pretty cheap. The store also offers a wide range of rare books. Powell’s, fortunately, has a map layout, so if you are looking for a specific section it shouldn’t be too hard to find. If you aren’t looking for something specific, I would recommend just wandering around (especially if you have a lot of free time on your hands). Powell’s is very cool, and i’d highly recommend a visit to anyone who’s in the Portland Area.IMG_2756

At The Market

This picture was taken at Saturday Market in Portland, Oregon. The market is a great place to hang out, people watch, shop, take pictures, and eat a variety of foods. It’s a great weekend event, it happens on both Saturday and Sunday, and it takes place in a nice little area right near the waterfront. The Market has lots of interesting things to shop for, most of which is handmade. I like the market because it’s a great place to just hang out, and all the vendors are friendly. It’s a great traditional Portland event, and I’d highly suggest a visit!

Cityscape

This picture was taken from one of the many bridges in Portland, Oregon. Portland is a cool city with a lot to offer, it’s not too big, or too fast paced, and it’s in pretty close proximity to some very cool natural areas. The city is nice to just walk or drive around, and it’s got some very cool and quirky places to visit. If you’re planning a visit to Portland make sure Voodoo doughnuts and Powell’s City of Books are both places on your list of sites to visit!

Portland Waterfront

This picture was taken at the Waterfront in Portland, Oregon. The waterfront is a nice area, it has a lot of nice, higher end hotels that face the river. Personally, I love seeing a city at night, it seems like a great big glass forest of skyscrapers, and all the lights just look like stars. The water in Portland gives off great reflection too, and walking along the side of the river provides for a great view.

Mummy Lady

This lovely lady is a 3,000 year old egyptian mummy on display at the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose, California. This mummy is female, she was a priestess, and she was about 28 years old when she died, though cause of death is unknown. The Museum is built in an Egyptian style, and houses the largest collection of Egyptian Artifacts on the West coast of North America. This is one of four human mummies in their collection, which also includes a large number of animal mummies. The Museum is opened Wednesday through Sunday from 9am-5pm. It’s definitely an interesting museum, and worth a visit if you are in the area.
