Pagodas of Bagan

This picture was taken from the top of one of the many thousands of Pagodas in Bagan, Myanmar (formerly Burma) at sunset. People visit Bagan to go see the Pagodas, and one of the favorite tourist activities in this town is going to the top and watching the sunset. There are many temples that will provide you with an awesome view (like this) and you can probably ask about which ones have the best views at the front desk of a hotel, or you can even ask a taxi driver, they usually know the most popular tourist spots. It’s great to go see the sunset from the top, but it’s still a great view without the sunset. Remember when visiting the pagodas you need to be appropriately dressed; legs covered to the knees, no shoes or socks, and cover your shoulders too!

Sunset on the Mekong

This picture was taken from a boat on the Mekong River in Laos. The river is huge, and extends into China, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand. We were in Luang Prabang, Laos, and took a small boat from a riverside temple. You can take boats all along the river from town too. Boats can also take you to the Cave of a Thousand Buddhas and the Lao Whiskey village. We didn’t visit the latter, but the former was an interesting site. If you have time i’d recommend taking a boat on the Mekong, the scenery is really beautiful and it’s a really good way to get a look at Laos outside of the place that you’re staying.

This is a picture of the city of London around sunset. The picture was taken from the London Eye, the tallest ferris wheel in the world. The height really give you an amazing view of the city. We chose to go at night so we could see the city all lit up, but you can make your reservations (online) for any time between 10:00 AM and 8:30 PM. The ferris wheel is so big that the ride actually takes about 30 minutes, so going around the tail end of sunset gives you the sunset view, and the city skyline at night. The Eye is also close to some other rides, as well as an aquarium, so if you’re going check out some of the other cool stuff in the area too!

This is a photograph of a giraffe silhouette, taken in Maasai Mara, Kenya. As i’ve mentioned before (see other Kenya posts) Maasai Mara is my favorite of the parks i’ve visited in Kenya. I find that it has the greatest proliferation of wildlife, and we usually have great luck here, there are tons of animals, especially if you are around during the Great Migration, and because this park is more touristed (still no where close to over-touristed though) the animals are a little less shy than they are at some of the more remote parks.

This picture was taken from a bridge near Berlin’s Reichstag building. We went late and ended up with this pretty view. If you want to go see the inside of the Reichstag make the plans ahead of time. As a result of a terrorist threat a while back, you now need reservations to go inside. Make your reservations (it can be done online) at least three days in advance, ¬†available time slots fill up relatively fast.
