Watching

This picture was taken at the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, in the Ugandan Highlands. This is a Highland gorilla, this forest is home to over half of the world’s (highly endangered) mountain gorilla population. In order to see this you need to go on a trek, and the length time which you trek is dependent on how quickly you find the gorillas. There aren’t any paths, you sort of just dive into the forest, walking sticks are advisable, especially if you have trouble on uneven terrain. I’m not a fan of walking sticks, but I still found it helpful. Also, make sure you are in appropriate attire before you go; really do your research! DON’T GO IN SHORTS! Wear long pants and tuck them in to long socks, there are biting ants in Uganda, and trust me, you don’t want anything distracting you while you’re seeing these amazing creatures. Also, wear long sleeves, it’s hot, but you’ll want the protection, lightweight travel shirts that dry quickly are advisable. Once you’ve found the gorillas you are only allowed to spend one hour with them. All of the information you need will be provided by a park ranger/ guide, but it’s good to know what you need ahead of time. Honestly, i’ve seen a lot of amazing things, and I don’t know that i’ve ever been so in awe in my life. It’s expensive to go, but if you can afford it and you aren’t afraid to sweat a little GO! It’s worth it.
