Albino Alligator

This photo was taken at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, California. The Cal Academy is an awesome place to go for a day, and if you’re interested and 21 or over, they also have nightlife programs every Thursday. It’s not exactly a regular museum, kind of more like a science center; it’s got a planetarium, an aquarium, and a bio dome. It’s a great place to visit with kids, or to go for a date, or just a fun day of science! So, If you’re in the mood for some super cool learning, and you’re in the bay area, you should definitely check it out!

Black Bear on the River

This picture was taken in Sequoia/ Kings Canyon National Park in California. The parks are absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth visiting. Both parks have a lot to offer, including; a plethora of wildlife, tons of hiking trails, camp sites, lodges, cabins, and fantastic scenery. The parks are SUPER impressive no matter where you’re from, but if you’ve never seen a giant sequoia (redwood) before, then prepare to be amazed. We went during the summer this year and we saw tons of animals, including this Black Bear (and seven others). There are easy trails and trails for backpackers, and the people who work at rangers stations are really helpful if you have questions. Just a reminder, if you’re going to be hiking here to bring the appropriate footwear and outdoor gear for the type of hike you’re going on!

Fish- Mobile

This picture was taken in the wacky, wonderful, and weird city of San Francisco. San Francisco, being one of the major cities in Northern California, has a TON to offer. Some of my favorite San Fran places are the Cal Academy of Sciences, The Golden Gate Bridge, and Haight Ashbury. It’s a really neat city, and you can find a lot of interesting areas just by wandering around. We happened to drive past this on a recent visit there, I thought it was super cool, and pretty indicative of the awesomely artsy weirdness that can be found in this city. If you’re planning to visit i’d recommend looking into visiting some of the numerous museums the city has to offer, or looking to see what events may be happening during your visit. This is also a great place to go for music, check to see if there are any cool concerts or music festivals going on during your stay!

Mummy Lady

This lovely lady is a 3,000 year old egyptian mummy on display at the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose, California. This mummy is female, she was a priestess, and she was about 28 years old when she died, though cause of death is unknown. The Museum is built in an Egyptian style, and houses the largest collection of Egyptian Artifacts on the West coast of North America. This is one of four human mummies in their collection, which also includes a large number of animal mummies. The Museum is opened Wednesday through Sunday from 9am-5pm. It’s definitely an interesting museum, and worth a visit if you are in the area.

These pictures were taken at the Museum of Art and History in Santa Cruz, California. The museum is currently holding an exhibit of works by Ze Frank and Stefan Boucher. (If you don’t know who Ze Frank is I seriously suggest you look him up, he’s done lots of interesting projects, and two TED talks. I’d also recommend watching his Vlog, especially the video entitled An Invocation For Beginnings, it’s really amazing) The weekend we went we actually got to meet him and hear presentations by him and Stefan Boucher, another artist. The MAH has lots of interesting, sort of out there exhibits, it’s not a very large museum, but it has a very different experience to offer it’s visitors. I’d recommend a visit here if you are in Santa Cruz, it’s very unique, and much of the works on display here allow visitors to really participate and become more fully involved in their viewing experience. Many of the works are community oriented, and work to incorporate all viewers who choose to become involved. It’s an awesome place, and it’s absolutely worth checking out!

This series of photos was taken at Malibu  Creek State park in Southern California. If you are visiting LA and you’re in search of some nature this is a great place to come.  It’s not too far outside of the city (the drive really depends on traffic) and the park is pretty close to the beach. There are lots of paths here, there are also places for fishing, horseback riding, and camping. The park is also just a really nice place to go and hangout with your family for the day, and it’s a good little get away from the city!

This is a picture of one of the many impressive pieces being displayed at the California Science Center’s temporary Cleopatra Exhibit. The exhibit is cool, not to big, but with a lot of very impressive, and very, very, well preserved. The exhibit has some really neat statues, I thought this one was particularly cool, but there are also a couple of really large statues here too. The exhibit starts with a video, to give you some background information on the material displayed, and both reading material and headsets are provided. And, when you are done  with this exhibit you can wander around the rest of the museum. It’s a great museum, with a lot of fun little exhibits, and it’s totally family friendly. The only thing i’d recommend is going earlier in the day rather than later, this is for two reasons; one is, it’s not located in the best neighborhood, it shouldn’t be a problem, but just to be on the safe side try to be gone before dark. The other is, there are a few other really cool museums around, check ’em out if you have time!
